Did you know that today is the first day of spring?

With the new season starting, it can be important to think about how to make the warmer months more enjoyable for you and your family. It’s time to wash the winter blahs away and get ready for spending more time outdoors!

What Is Going In Your Garden?

Are you going to plant a garden this year? Now is a good time to think about what you want to plant and where you want to plant it.

Being Fort Erie, it is much too wet to prepare a garden right now. In fact, where I live you sometimes would need a boat to go all the way to the back of the yard! However, now is the perfect time to do some planning so your garden this year will be a success!

Some things to think about include: how is your garden being tilled - by you or will you hire someone to do it? Do your fences need to be repaired to keep animals out of your garden? Will you need to add fertilizer or other soil additives to help your garden to grow? Have you changed the oil on your lawnmower - ever? It’s important to consider all the steps to making your yard and garden a success. Spring has just begun, so you have lots of time to get everything ready!

Are You Going On An Adventure?

What adventure does the spring hold for you? It could be something as simple as going for a walk several times a week to help improve your health, or more extreme like trying skydiving for the first time!

There is lots to do in the Niagara region! Whether you go to Niagara Falls and try some of the tourist attractions, go hiking on trails in the parks, or simply get out your library card and explore good books! I hope you find something you enjoy doing and have an amazing time!

Did you know that Uplift Cleaning Company attends events in our community?

We do and we like to meet and talk to people in the Niagara region who we get the chance to talk with at these events.

Some notable community events we have attended:

  • November 2025 - Two Christmas Market events, one in Niagara Falls, one in Fort Erie

  • November 2025 - Fort Erie Santa Claus Parade

  • March 6 and 7, 2026 - Women’s Day events in Ridgeway and Fonthill

While all of these events were interesting and we met a lot of great people there, my personal favourite was the Fort Erie Santa Claus Parade!

One evening in November 2025, we managed to distribute almost 1,500 colouring books to the crowd along the parade route. We ran out, because I thought that 1,500 colouring books would be a ridiculous amount to make. I probably should have made around 4,000 instead. It was my first parade and I think the whole group we had on our float had a great time! We are definitely going to be doing it again this year!

Every time we go to an event we bring new ideas about how to market our services, or at least spread happiness (with colouring books at the parade). Every time we learn new things. Every time we participate in our community, not just as a faceless business, but as a member of our community trying to make the Niagara region cleaner, one home or office at a time!

We will be posting on our Facebook page about where we are for community events in the future. If we happen to meet you at one of them, just let us know that you read our blog. We really appreciate knowing that our efforts are being noticed.

See you out there somewhere, maybe at a table at an event some time soon!

It’s that time of year again for those of us with school-aged children in our lives. March Break! We at Uplift Cleaning Company like some good clean fun. Here are some ideas for keeping your children entertained during March Break:

Fort Erie Public Library

Uplift Cleaning Company appreciates Fort Erie Public Library! Not only do they have a lot of books (obviously), friendly and helpful staff, and spaces to study or have meetings, but also a full schedule of kid-friendly activities for March Break!

The Fort Erie Public Library system is a huge asset to our community and I hope that you get yourself a library card and use their services.

Tubi

Tubi is a free with ads video streaming service that has a wide variety of movies and TV shows. While it is important to be very aware of what you are watching, as Tubi has content that is definitely not child-friendly, they have a large collection of family-friendly movies and TV shows.

If you don’t have any other streaming service available, or you find something you want to watch on there that can’t be found elsewhere, Tubi can be a great option for watching a movie or TV show!

Computer Projects

For teenagers, Windows 10 End-Of-Life last October may give them a chance to flex their Linux muscles! Or to develop them!

If you have an old computer that can’t upgrade from Windows 10, this might be a great way to have your older children have their first adventure with Linux.

Uplift Cleaning Company would recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon or  Ubuntu 24.04 LTS for regular laptops or desktop computers. We use these for our business and we find them quite satisfactory.

For the more adventurous of us, consider a Raspberry Pi. While a Raspberry Pi 3-series may not be the best for web browsing anymore, there are so many games and useful programs to learn that run on it! If you have a Raspberry Pi 4 or especially a Pi 5, your child can have a desktop replacement experience with it!

If you are using a Raspberry Pi, you might want to check out Code the Classics 1 & 2, which are free Linux games. There might be something there to keep older children busy for hours!

Outdoor Activities - Weather Permitting

We all know that if you don’t like the weather in the Niagara region, check it again in a few minutes. This time of year it can be difficult to decide what season it’s supposed to be today.

Getting the bicycles ready for spring bike rides and taking them for some long test rides can be a great way to get the family outside and disconnected from technology for a while.

If it’s a nice day, just going for a walk around your neighbourhood, or walking or biking to the library could be a great way to enjoy March Break with your family.

Uplift Cleaning Company hopes that you and your family have a fantastic March Break 2026!
