Preparing For Thanksgiving In The Niagara Region

Getting ready for Thanksgiving can be stressful. With some planning it can be easier to make it a great experience for everyone!

Plan Ahead

What do you need to make your Thanksgiving a huge success? Is it important to get a certain size or type of turkey that could be difficult to get at the last moment? Are you particular about your cranberry sauce? Will you have lots of people visiting your home for Thanksgiving dinner? All of this can be handled by planning ahead.

Getting the things you need to make your Thanksgiving a success ahead of time is one way to help make it easier for you!

Have A Clean Home

Of course, having a clean home for Thanksgiving is important! There is still time to break the jobs down so it is a few rooms at a time, if that’s what you need to do, so it is a manageable job for you or your family.

If you have a dining room table like we have, with removable leaves, we can sympathize with you that your dining room may feel like it shrank when the table is fully extended. We have found that cleaning up the dining room can help, clearing more space at both ends of the table especially, so the fully extended table won’t make the room seem cramped.

An Analog Thanksgiving!

Do you remember a time when people didn’t have a phone or tablet in front of them most of the time? We do and we think that was perhaps a better time for humanity.

Having a Thanksgiving with genuine communication and spending quality time together might be easier by limiting or banning phones and tablets for the day. We understand if that is not possible for everyone, but most people should be able to put their phone away and share a meaningful moment with another person without a device between them!

Guest Expectations

Thanksgiving is one of those times each year where we can be with people we usually don’t see often. It would be good if everyone gets along and avoids conflict for the benefit of the group.

We suggest that to make for a peaceful day, the host could ask that their guests make sure everyone gets caught up on the important events they have to share with each other. Focus on bringing us together as a group, sharing our victories and setbacks. By doing this, we can hopefully avoid having conversation drifting to polarizing topics like politics or other things that we individually can’t do much about on Thanksgiving.

By encouraging your guests to catch up with each other - perhaps making it a phone and tablet-free environment - we can put our devices down, talk to each other respectfully, and have a great time together.

Prepare To Have A Great Time!

Planning your Thanksgiving so it (mostly) goes as you want it means that you can get ready for an experience that is more relaxed and less chaotic. This could result in you and your family and friends having a great time!
