Preparing For A Niagara Winter
Winter in the Niagara region can be somewhat unpredictable. We could have many weeks of cool or cold weather that is pretty nice, then have high winds and blowing snow. We might even get a blizzard that lasts for several days!
Tidying Outside
When it becomes uncomfortable to use your outdoor furniture, it might be a good idea to put it away until spring, ensuring that it doesn’t get damaged by winter weather.
Securing or putting away items that could move or become airborne in the sort of high wind we can get in the winter is important too.
Getting your home ready for winter may also involve getting it ready for the holiday season. That starts on November 1 where I live! Change the summer outdoor furniture for lights and yard decorations, if that is what you like doing.
Check Your Snow Removal Equipment
Have you checked your snow removal equipment yet? Making sure it is in good working order is important, as we are getting to a point where it could snow any day now.
If you need to get a snowblower serviced, like an oil change or a tune-up, it’s better to get that done before winter starts and the small engine mechanics are busy!
There are some electric snowblower owners out there. Checking the batteries to make sure they still hold a charge is a good idea before the snowblower is needed.
For those of us who use one or more shovels to clear our driveway, walkway, and step, make sure they are in working order and that perhaps you know where all of your winter equipment has even gotten too! Sometimes a snow shovel gets used in non-winter seasons and needs to be found before it’s time to shovel some snow.
A key point is that getting things fixed, finding the things you need, and doing all of this with the least amount of stress may happen before it starts to snow and you require the items you need to get or have fixed. Planning ahead is planning for success!
Hiring A Snow Removal Company
If you are not someone who enjoys clearing the driveway and front step yourself, or you can’t do it anymore, hiring a snow removal company might be a good idea.
In the Niagara region there are many snow removal companies to choose from. Depending on where you live, there may be more than in other areas. For example, in Fort Erie, there seems to be fewer options available here than for Niagara Falls or St. Catharines.
When selecting a snow removal company, find one who services the area you live in, and provides the services you need. These might include clearing your walkway and steps to your door, applying salt, and sweeping off your vehicle(s).
We at Uplift Cleaning Company have mixed feelings about winter. Some of us like it, others don’t like it at all. I am a fan of having a blizzard once in a while. That last blizzard in December of 2022 was a good experience for me. I really enjoyed having a blizzard for Christmas!
